Walkulator is an independent project built by people who actually count their steps. We were tired of vague answers to simple questions — how far is 10,000 steps, how many calories did that walk burn, is a weighted vest worth it — so we built the tools we wished existed, with the real formulas behind them.
What we do
We make free, easy-to-use calculators for walkers. Today the Site includes 8 calculators across three areas:
- Distance & steps — convert steps to miles and kilometers, with a page for every common step count.
- Calories & weight — calories burned walking and a walking weight-loss projection.
- Equipment — rucking, weighted-vest, walking-pad, and treadmill calorie calculators.
How our calculators are built
Accuracy is the whole point of a calculator, so we don't hand-wave the math. Distance is based on a stride-length model (your height and pace), and every calorie figure uses the ACSM metabolic equation — the same MET-based method used in exercise science — multiplied by your body weight and time. Each formula is backed by an automated test suite, and our by-size reference tables are generated directly from the live calculator logic, so the numbers in a chart always match the number the tool gives you.
Our standards
- Sourced from established science. Our MET values and stride estimates come from published exercise-physiology methods, not guesses.
- Verified in code. Each calculator's math runs through an automated test suite, and every reference table is generated from the live formula, so a chart can never drift from the tool.
- Honest about estimates. Real results vary by person. We say so, and we never present an estimate as a medical or fitness prescription.
- Corrected openly. If a reader shows us a number is off, we investigate and fix it. Tell us what you entered and what you expected.
How we stay free
Walkulator is free to use and always will be. We keep the lights on through advertising and a small number of affiliate links (as an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases). These never change the result a calculator gives you — the math comes first. You can read exactly how ads and data work on our Privacy Policy page.
A note on health
Our tools give general estimates, not medical or fitness advice. Everyone is different — consult a professional before starting a new exercise, rucking, or weight-loss program. See our Terms of Use for the full details.
